KPD Investigating After Two-Year-Old Shot

UPDATE (May 12, 2024, 12 p.m.): Two juvenile males, ages 14 and 12, who were detained following the shooting that critically injured a two-year-old girl have been charged with felony reckless endangerment and juvenile in possession of a firearm. Additional charges are likely.

Based on the findings of the still ongoing investigation, it is believed that the victim was struck after a firearm was unintentionally discharged inside the apartment.

The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

The Knoxville Police Department is investigating after a two-year-old was shot inside of a downtown Knoxville apartment on Saturday evening.

At around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, KPD officers and Knoxville Fire Department personnel were dispatched to an apartment at The Vista apartment complex on E. Hill Avenue, where a two-year-old girl was struck after a gun was discharged inside the apartment. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

It is believed that all of the involved individuals are accounted for, as three juveniles were detained following the shooting for further investigation. Those individuals are being questioned by KPD Homicide Unit detectives.

The shooting happened inside of the apartment and no other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing at this time. Updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
