Police Records and Accident Reports

The Records Unit is open Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. All copies of reports are $0.15 per page. The only forms of payment currently accepted are cash, check, and money order.

Motor Vehicle Accident Reports:
Motor vehicle accident reports may be obtained in person at 1650 Huron Street, or a mailed request with payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope may be sent to 1617 Saint Mary Street, Knoxville, TN, 37917, Attention Records.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security provides digital copies of motor vehicle accident reports at purchasetncrash.gov for $10.00.

Per T.C.A. 10-7-504(a)(31), only persons directly involved in a motor vehicle accident may receive an unredacted report. This includes:

1. Any person named in the report
2. An agent, legal representative, or attorney of any person or property owner named in the report with certification or permission from the represented party
3. The owner of any real property listed in the report
4. Any person or entity authorized to obtain motor vehicle records information

Incident Reports:

Local Criminal Background Check:
Local criminal background checks are available for $10.00. The Records Unit requires a government-issued photo ID and a social security card in order to complete the request.
