Demetricus Hurst Charged with Rape Following Incident at Market Square Parking Garage

Demetricus Hurst, 30 of Knoxville, has been charged with rape and additional charges following an investigation into an incident that happened on Friday afternoon at the Market Square Parking Garage.

At around 2 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024, KPD officers responded to 406 Walnut Street, where a 56-year-old woman reported that she was sexually assaulted by an unknown man in a bathroom at the Market Square Parking Garage.

The suspect was captured on parking garage security video and pictures of the suspect were shared by East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers on Friday afternoon.

At around midday on Monday, June 17, Hurst came to the Public Safety Complex, spoke with Special Crimes Unit detectives and confessed to sexually assaulting the victim.

Hurst was subsequently charged with rape, aggravated kidnapping and sexual battery. He has since been booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on those charges.
