After a collaborative investigation into a reported school threat, a 13-year-old male has been charged for threat of mass violence.
On Wednesday evening, the Knoxville Police Department was notified that the aforementioned individual, who is not being identified due to his juvenile status, had allegedly threatened to bring a gun to Ridgedale School and shoot someone.
Through the combined efforts of KPD Field Operations officers and Investigations Bureau detectives, Knox County School Security, Tennessee Department of Homeland Security investigators, and the Knox County District Attorney’s Office, the individual responsible for the threat was identified and located.
KPD officers and detectives made contact with that individual at his home late Wednesday night and took him into custody following further investigation.
“We will have zero tolerance for those who make threats of violence towards our schools,” Chief Paul Noel said. “I am grateful for the quick intervention of our officers and law enforcement partners after being notified of this threat.”
