The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened on Wednesday afternoon on Washington Pike.

At around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, KPD officers were dispatched to a crash that occurred on Washington Pike at Edmondson Lane involving a truck and a bicyclist.

Based on the investigation that was conducted at the scene, which included witness statements, it is believed the following occurred. A blue Ford F-150 was driving east on Washington Pike when a bicyclist suddenly pulled on to Washington Pike from Edmondson Lane and into the path of the truck. The truck then struck the bicyclist, a 21-year-old man.

The bicyclist was transported to the UT Medical Center with serious injuries. As of Thursday morning, the victim was listed in stable but critical condition. Officers were advised early Friday morning that the victim had died sometime overnight as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

No other injuries were reported in the crash, which is under active investigation by KPD crash reconstruction personnel.
