Two Killed in Crash at I-40 and I-640

Two people were killed in a single-car crash that happened early Monday morning.

At around 6:15 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024, Knoxville Police Department officers were dispatched to the I-40 East ramp to I-640 East in West Knoxville to investigate a single-car crash.

Based on the evidence on scene, the involved vehicle was traveling east on the I-40 ramp to I-640 when it ran off the road to the right for reasons that remain unknown and struck a guardrail. The two occupants, who were identified as Florida residents, were pronounced dead at the scene.

KPD crash reconstruction personnel were dispatched to the scene and are leading the investigation into the crash. All travel lanes have re-opened.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
