Knoxville Police Department crash reconstruction personnel are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning on I-40 East.

At around 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, KPD officers were dispatched to a call regarding a Toyota Corolla that for unknown reasons was stopped in the far right lane of travel on I-40 East near Midway Road. Just minutes later, officers received a call that a box truck that was traveling east on I-40 had collided with the rear of the stopped Corolla.

The driver and only occupant of the Corolla, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The box truck driver was uninjured in the crash.

Officers located assorted narcotics in the Corolla, including suspected heroine and crack cocaine.

The crash remains under active investigation by KPD crash reconstruction personnel.
