Charles Hornberger, 60, Charged with First-Degree Murder

60-year-old Charles Hornberger was charged with first-degree murder after Knoxville Police Department officers responded to an apparent suspicious death in the Montgomery Village community on Tuesday evening.

At around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, KPD officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1500 block of Daylily Drive, where a woman was found dead on the front porch. It was determined that the victim had been shot at least one time.

Responding officers quickly located Hornberger inside of the apartment and detained him for questioning.

Through continued investigation, KPD Homicide Unit detectives learned from witnesses that Hornberger was heard yelling and causing a disturbance at around midday on Tuesday.

During questioning led by Homicide Unit detectives, Hornberger admitted to shooting the victim, who was identified as his wife.

Hornberger was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. Efforts remain ongoing to make next of kin notifications.
