One Killed, One Injured in Washington Pike Shooting

UPDATE (December 20, 2024): The victim from the deadly shooting that happened early Thursday morning has been identified as Ernest Glenn, 38 of Knoxville.

The second gunshot victim, identified as a 45-year-old man, remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Based on the findings of the investigation, at this time it is believed that the shooting was targeted and not random in nature.

A suspect has not been identified or charged but detectives are pursuing active leads.

The shooting remains under investigation by the KPD Homicide Unit.

One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting that happened early Thursday morning on Washington Pike.

At around 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2024, Knoxville Police Department officers were initially dispatched to the North Hills Apartments due to a reported gunshot victim.

While responding to that call, officers spotted a car that had crashed into a fence in the 2900 block of Washington Pike. The driver, an adult man, was found unresponsive and suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Responding officers and KFD personnel attempted life-saving care but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers who continued to the site of the initial call at the North Hill Apartment complex found another gunshot victim, also an adult man. That victim was transported to the UT Medical Center with serious injuries.

It is believed that the shooting occurred in the 2900 block of Washington Pike and the second victim fled from the scene into the North Hills Apartment complex to seek help.

There is no suspect information at this time and the investigation remains in the early stages. That investigation is being led by the KPD Homicide Unit.
