After extensive efforts led by Knoxville Police Department Crisis Negotiators, 36-year-old Darryl Johnson was taken into custody early Tuesday morning for an assault that occurred at a home on Royal Prince Way.
At around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, KPD officers were dispatched to a home in the 4700 block of Royal Prince Way. It was reported that Johnson had assaulted his mother and was armed with a knife.
Officers arrived on scene and met with the victim, who reported that Johnson had choked her before retrieving a knife. The victim was able to safely escape the home before officers arrived on scene. Officers who arrived at the scene then spotted Johnson inside the home, and saw that he was cutting himself with the knife.
Crisis Negotiators subsequently responded to the scene to lead the efforts to peacefully resolve the situation. At just after 9 a.m., Johnson voluntarily exited the home and was taken into custody.
Johnson, who was charged with aggravated domestic assault, was transported to the UT Medical Center for treatment for the self-inflicted lacerations. He has since been released and booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.
