Girl, Age 8, Wounded in Shooting at Cassell Ridge Apartments; Suspect Identified and Charged

Knoxville Police Department detectives are investigating a shooting that wounded an eight-year-old girl at the Cassell Ridge Apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, KPD officers responded to the Cassell Ridge Apartments on Cassell Valley Way on a report of shots fired.

An eight-year-old girl who was in the area at the time of the shooting was wounded by the gunfire. She was transported to the UT Medical Center for treatment. She is in stable condition and her injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Responding officers detained multiple individuals at the scene for questioning, including a 14-year-old male who was identified as the shooting suspect following continued investigation.

The investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly fired at a car occupied by multiple individuals due to an apparent ongoing conflict.

The suspect, who is not being identified at this time due to his juvenile status, is being charged on juvenile petitions for multiple offenses, including attempted first-degree murder, felony child abuse and weapon charges.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
