UPDATE (May 12, 2025, 4:45 p.m.): The victim of the deadly single-car crash that happened this past Saturday morning has been identified as Linda Smith, 66 of Knoxville. KPD crash reconstruction personnel are investigating the possibility that Smith experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash, pending the findings of the Medical Examiner’s Office autopsy. Lack of seatbelt was also believed to be a contributing factor.

The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a fatal single-car crash that happened on Saturday morning.
At around 8:35 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, KPD officers responded to the ramp from Broadway to Hall of Fame Drive, where a car had run off of the road to the right, collided with the bridge support and flipped on to its top.
The driver and only occupant, an adult woman, was transported to the UT Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She was later pronounced deceased.
The factors that contributed to the crash remain under investigation by KPD crash reconstruction personnel.
