The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened on Monday morning in the 7200 block of Asheville Highway.

At just before 9 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025, KPD officers were dispatched to the 7200 block of Asheville Highway on a report of a crash involving a Jeep SUV and a tractor trailer. The Jeep driver, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation conducted at the scene, it is believed that the tractor trailer was stopped and attempting to turn left across Asheville Highway. The trailer was still partially in a lane of travel while it was waiting to cross Asheville Highway. At that time, the Jeep was traveling west on Asheville Highway when it collided with the rear of the trailer.

KPD crash reconstruction investigators responded to the scene and are leading the investigation, which remains ongoing. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notifications.
