19-year-old Antwane Hartsell was taken into custody following a comprehensive and collaborative investigation into a hit-and-run that seriously injured a pedestrian on Wednesday night.
At just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the intersection of Heiskell Avenue and Minnesota Avenue to investigate a hit-and-run collision. The investigation revealed that a 37-year-old man had been hit by a speeding car while attempting to cross Minnesota Avenue. The car left the scene following the collision, while the victim was transported to the UT Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.
Surveillance video revealed that the suspect vehicle was a Nissan Versa. With the assistance of area license-plate reader (LPR) cameras, officers identified a vehicle matching the description and responded to the address where the car was registered.
Once there, officers learned that Hartsell was driving the vehicle and heading to an address in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Oak Ridge Police Department officers responded to the address, where they located and detained Hartsell.
KPD officers then responded to the address in Oak Ridge for continued investigation and to examine the suspect vehicle, which had damage indicating that it was involved in the crash.
Hartsell was subsequently taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
