Travis Mitchell, 36, was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder following a domestic assault and fire at a residence on Woodbine Avenue.
At 1:20 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a reported domestic assault and fire in the 2400 block of Woodbine Avenue. When officers arrived, they found three victims and the family’s dog inside the home and removed them safely. The front entrance to the residence was damaged by fire and smoke.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Mitchell assaulted his ex-girlfriend inside the home and left. Minutes later, Mitchell returned to the residence with a gas can, intentionally set fire to the front door and fled the scene. Security camera footage captured the incident.
Officers located and arrested Mitchell a short time later near Kenner Avenue. Mitchell was charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, domestic assault, aggravated arson, aggravated cruelty to animals and additional charges.
KPD Special Crimes Unit detectives and Knoxville Fire Department arson investigators responded to the scene and are leading the investigation. Additional charges are possible.
