A 14-year-old male has died while a 15-year-old male was charged with reckless homicide following a shooting that happened at a Juniper Drive home on Wednesday.
At around noon on October 7, 2026, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a home in the 2200 block of Juniper Drive, where a 14-year-old male had been shot. The victim was transported to the UT Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Responding officers located multiple additional juveniles at the scene. Upon questioning and further investigation led by KPD Homicide Unit detectives, it was determined that the victim was shot by a 15-year-old male who was reportedly handling a gun and unintentionally discharged a round.
The 15-year-old male suspect was taken into custody on a juvenile petition for reckless homicide.
The identity of both the victim and the suspect are being withheld due to their juvenile status.
A previous version of this news release reported that the victim was a 15-year-old male. It has since been corrected to reflect that the victim was 14 years old.
