Explosive Ordinance Detail

The Knoxville Police Department’s Explosive Ordinance Detail is responsible for providing for the safe handling of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED’s) and Unexploded Ordnance (military UXO); the recovery and disposal of commercial and military explosives; investigation of bombing incidents to including attempts, hoaxes, and post-blast incidents; and to provide related training to law enforcement and civilians.

EOD, also known as the Bomb Squad, is requested to the scenes of suspicious packages or items that have the potential of being explosive devices.

The KPD Bomb Squad also provides support to several nearby federal and local law enforcement agencies for these same functions when requested.
