West District

The Knoxville Police Department’s West District is the largest of the three police districts, covering roughly 49.5 square miles. That includes numerous major thoroughfares, primarily I-40, Western Avenue, Kingston Pike, Pellissippi Parkway, Clinton Highway and portions of Alcoa Highway. West Town Mall also falls within the West District boundaries.

Captain Tracy Hunter has been with the KPD for over 24 years. Captain Hunter previously served as the commander of the Special Investigations Division in the Investigations Bureau, where she was the commander for the Tennessee ICAC Task Force, and as supervisor for the Forensic Unit. She also previously served in the Field Operations Bureau as the Executive Officer to the Bureau commander, and as a patrol lieutenant, patrol sergeant, Inspections Unit supervisor, field training officer, bike officer, and team leader for the fatal crash reconstruction team. Captain Hunter is also a KPD firearms instructor. She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 288, and of UT’s National Forensic Academy, 47th Session. Captain Hunter holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Bethel University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Washington State University. Captain Hunter volunteers her personal time in the community as a BSA scout leader and with the Carter High School Marching Band.
