K-9 Detail

The Knoxville PD K-9 Unit is comprised of 12 teams that work tirelessly to provide a variety of services to the citizens of Knoxville. Those teams specialize in locating drugs, conducting building searches, tracking and explosive detection. These teams are valuable members of the Knoxville Police Department. Ongoing training is an integral part of the K-9 Unit. All K-9 teams have received certification by the International Police Working Dog Association (IPWDA).

The Explosive Detection K-9 teams are certified through IPWDA in searching for signs of chemical explosives in both open and enclosed environments. The Explosive Detection K-9s are utilized to sweep the majority of Special Events throughout the City of Knoxville.

The Patrol and Narcotic Detection K-9 teams are certified through IPWDA in searching for the odor of narcotics.
