Offense Dashboard

The Public Offense Dashboard is an interactive data visualization that is refreshed every morning at 04:30 a.m. It contains offenses with a generated report by the Knoxville Police Department.

The dashboard was designed to give an overview of the offenses within the city up to the present day. Offenses are reported using the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System that is maintained by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and is a part of the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) that is maintained by the FBI.

Offenses shown are preliminary data that has not yet been audited by the TBI.

Visuals can be filtered using the following:

  • Date: Enter a date in the text box or use the slider to select the desired date range. The offenses are filtered by the incident’s start time.
  • Offense Type: This filter is displayed under the Offense Type. The offense selection can be located underneath the Crime Against category of Person, Property, or Society. If no option is chosen, the visuals display the aggregated value for all offenses. The full Crime Against category can be selected or the arrow next to the category can be clicked and specific offense categories can be selected. A table listing the Offenses is located below. To select multiple checkboxes the user will need to hold the Ctrl button on their keyboard while clicking the check box to the left of the option.
  • District: Filter Offenses based on the District where the event was listed to take place. KPD has three Districts: Central, East, and West. If no District is selected, the visuals display the totals for all three Districts.
