The Knoxville Police Department and Downtown Knoxville Alliance are inviting the community to help name three new horses recently purchased for KPD’s Mounted Patrol Unit.
The three draft crosses arrived in Knoxville in late July and are already in training. The new horses will be taking part in some patrol operations with trained Mounted Patrol Officers in the coming weeks.
The new horses include:
A black four-year-old Morgan/Percheron cross

A black and white five-year-old Quarter Horse/Belgian-Percheron cross

A black six-year-old Quarter Horse/Percheron cross

The horses were purchased by the Downtown Knoxville Alliance to expand KPD’s Mounted Patrol Unit and increase its presence in the Downtown and Old City areas and at special events.
Name submissions will be accepted now through Friday, September 5 at downtownknoxville.org/horses. Once the submission period closes, a selection committee will review the entries and choose the three names.
Community members who submit the winning names will receive a prize pack, compliments of Downtown Knoxville Alliance and KPD
