The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a Knoxville Police Department officer that occurred at the intersection of Kingston Pike and Northshore Drive Sunday night.

The crash, which involved two other vehicles, happened at just before 7 pm on Sunday, December 21. Two occupants in one of the involved vehicles sustained critical injuries in the crash. The involved officer, who was not responding to a call or operating lights or sirens at the time of the collision, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Due to the severity of the crash and involvement of a KPD officer, and at the request of the KPD, the Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash.
