UPDATE (January 1, 2026, 8 p.m.): Dytangie Jerosski Woodfin, 44 of Knoxville, has been arrested and charged in connection to the deadly shooting that happened in the 2000 block of Neyland Drive.
Through continued investigation, Woodfin was identified as a person of interest in the shooting death of Barry Evans, 60 of Knoxville. At around midday Thursday, officers located and detained Woodfin in the area of Spruce Street and E. Fifth Avenue.
After being questioned by KPD Homicide Unit detectives, Woodfin was taken into custody on charges that include first-degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a weapon, and employing a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The investigation revealed that Woodfin and Evans, who personally knew one another, were involved in an altercation when the shooting occurred.
The investigation is continuing.

Knoxville Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating after a gunshot victim was located in the area of Neyland Drive and Joan Cronan Way in the overnight hours.
Just minutes after midnight on January 1, 2026, KPD officers responded to the 2000 block of Neyland Drive, where an unresponsive man was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim, a 60-year-old Knoxville man, was pronounced dead after arriving at the UT Medical Center.
In collaboration with responding University of Tennessee Police Department officers, a vehicle of interest was identified and later located by KPD Community Engagement Response Team officers at the Shell gas station on E. Summit Hill Drive. The two occupants were detained and questioned by Homicide Unit detectives.
The investigation remains in the early stages and ongoing. At this time, no suspects have been arrested or charged in connection to the shooting. Detectives are pursuing active leads.
