UPDATE: 27-year-old Eric Ramon Alcantara-Guevara has been charged with vehicular homicide, DUI and leaving the scene of an accident following last night’s deadly crash on I-640 West. Alcantara ran from the scene following the crash but was quickly located by responding officers in the 4600 block of Old Broadway.

The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a wrong-way crash on I-640 West that led to the death of a motorcyclist on Sunday night.
At around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026, KPD officers responded to a crash on I-640 West near the Broadway exit, where a passenger vehicle that was reportedly traveling the wrong direction had collided with a westbound motorcycle. The motorcyclist, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants in the involved vehicle ran from the scene following the crash and prior to officer arrival. A short time later, the owner of the vehicle was located by responding officers nearby and taken into custody.
Charges are forthcoming, while the investigation into the crash remains ongoing. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
All lanes of I-640 West remain closed at the Broadway exit.
