School zone speed camera installations underway

In May 2025, as part of the City of Knoxville’s Vision Zero initiative and ongoing effort to improve roadway safety on city streets, City Council approved a contract with Blueline Solutions to install automated speed cameras in school zones within Knoxville city limits.

Blueline Solutions has now started phased installations of speed cameras and necessary infrastructure in school zones across Knoxville.

The cameras, which are accompanied by overt speed enforcement signage, are not active, and no citations are being issued at this time.

There will be a public information campaign before the speed cameras are activated or any warnings or citations are issued.

Once the project is completed, speed cameras will be installed in 41 school zones across the city and active during school drop-off and departure. Once operational, the cameras will capture speeding violations in active school zones that will be reviewed by a KPD officer.

The cameras are expected to be operational around the start of the 2026-27 school year. Until then, we want to remind motorists to slow down, pay attention and remain vigilant in active school zones.
