42-year-old Justin Hensley was arrested and charged following an investigation into the theft of a boom lift that was later found crashed and abandoned at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
At around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, KPD officers responded to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, where employees had discovered an abandoned boom lift against the side of the building. Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame staff also later discovered a window that appeared to have been broken by a rock.
There was no evidence on scene that anybody had entered the building and no property was reported stolen from the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
Further investigation revealed that the boom lift had been taken in the overnight hours by an unknown person at a construction site on Main Street. Surveillance footage revealed that a man walked from Gay Street toward the boom lift, entered and started the vehicle and drove onto Main Street.
Real Time Information Center staff reviewed historical data and were able to locate a high-quality of photo of the suspect, who was positively identified as Hensley following continued investigation led by Property Crimes Unit detectives.
On Sunday, Central District officers located and arrested Hensley. He was charged with one count of felony theft and one count of felony vandalism.
