Dewey Richards, 62, was taken into custody Thursday night following a standoff at a home on West Inskip Drive.

On July 30, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Knoxville Police Department officers were attempting to locate Richards, who had outstanding warrants for burglary, false imprisonment and assault stemming from an incident at a Tillery Drive storage unit facility on Saturday, July 25.

Richards was known to frequent a home on West Inskip Drive. When officers went to the home, they saw Richards inside. Officers repeatedly knocked and announced their presence at the door, but received no response.

KPD Crisis Negotiators, Special Operations Squad personnel and UAV team members responded to the scene. Negotiators and on-scene officers made extensive efforts to contact Richards, including by phone. Officers also attempted to contact the homeowner, 64-year-old Jeff Huling, but were unable to reach him.

After continued efforts, Richards and Huling voluntarily surrendered and were taken into custody without further issue.

Richards was arrested on the outstanding warrants. Huling was charged with accessory after the fact.
